An airborne command and control post variant of the Shaanxi Y-8 transport aircraft has been spotted under flight test at China Flight Test Establishment (CFTE) based at Yanliang, Shaanxi Province. The aircraft has its rear cargo loading ramp removed. A radome with unknown purpose (possibly satellite communications) is located on the back of the fuselage. The original rear gunner compartment was replaced by another large radome which likely houses electronic equipment. No further details regarding the status of this aircraft is amiable at this stage.
